COVID-19 Notice

Infection control has always been a top priority for our entire team so that when you receive care, it’s both safe and comfortable. As a matter of standard practice, our office follows infection control guidelines and recommendations made by the American Dental Association (ADA), the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). We follow the activities of these agencies so that we are up-to-date on any new rulings or guidance that may be issued.

As a result of the ongoing public health crisis, we have enhanced our already thorough infection control procedures. These enhanced procedures and protocols also include operational changes to put your mind at ease that we are doing our very best to minimize the risk of contracting COVID-19 or any other serious illness. In preparation for your appointment at Family Smiles Dental Care, please make note of the following:

  • Prior to your appointment, we will provide a link to a form with several screening questions. We ask you to carefully consider each question and contact our office immediately if your answer to any question is “Yes”, as it will likely be necessary to reschedule your appointment. You’ll be asked those same questions again when you are in the office and will also have your temperature taken. If you answer “Yes” to any of the screening questions or have an elevated temperature when you arrive at the office, you may be asked to reschedule your appointment.
  • We ask that you wear into the office a mask to cover your mouth and nose. If you do not have a mask, one will be provided for you.
  • Hand sanitizer is available for your use when you enter the office. We ask that you clean your hands prior to check in.
  • You may see that our reception area will no longer have magazines and other hand-held items that may be shared among patients. Such items are difficult to clean and disinfect, and consequently will be temporarily unavailable.
  • We will do our best to manage and maintain social distancing guidelines in our reception area. As an alternative, you may return to your car after check-in and we will call or text you when we are ready to proceed with your appointment.
  • Appointments will be managed to allow for social distancing between patients in the treatment areas. This means that we will be offering fewer options for scheduling your appointment, so we ask that you select a future appointment time carefully in order to reduce the likelihood of having to reschedule at the last minute or failing to show up altogether.
  • Our clinical teams will be using upgraded/additional personal protective equipment (PPE) to minimize transmission risk during your dental visit. This includes but may not be limited to the N95 respirator (facemask) or its FDA approved equivalent, face shields, full-length surgical gowns and head covers.

These circumstances are unprecedented and will require mutual cooperation for a successful dental visit. While we will always do our very best to provide comprehensive care to each of our patients as appropriate, we may not be able to complete as much work in a single visit as you may have previously experienced or expect on the day of your appointment. We respectfully ask for your patience and understanding as we work through and refine these new procedures that are all designed to maintain a safe environment for everyone.

Unfortunately, there is substantial additional ongoing cost associated with the changes and additions listed above. While Family Smiles has made the business decision to absorb the majority of these new expenses, we regret that we must institute a modest per visit fee of $15.00 to help defray these costs. Some insurance providers have agreed to add a benefit that may reduce or completely cover this cost while others have not. We will let you know if your insurance carrier has a benefit that may be applied to this charge.

We look forward to welcoming back our current patients, neighbors and friends and want to thank you for your trust and loyalty. If you are a new patient, it will be our pleasure to provide exceptional care and service to you and your family; we are confident that your visit will meet or exceed your expectations.
